Don`t worry, no spoilers here. I finished the book about 7 hours ago, and I just wanted to see if anybody else felt a little iono, maybe the word is empty after finishing. This is the end; JKRs said theres no more hp books. Its kinda saddening, actually, cause I`ve been reading these books since I was about 8(maybe 9) years old, so Harry Potter has literally been my childhood(i`ma be 17 soon). When a series of books is so interesting that you read it over and over again, and read a book in one sitting, it feels like you know the characters, like they`ve become your friends. The end of this series is like I lost a group of my friends. Its a book your either gonna love or hate; Im completely on the love side. Now if this is completely crazy or not appropriate, i mean its not much left to theorize on, i will blame the crazyness of it on the fact that ive had 4 hours of sleep in the past 40 hours.
Happy reading, everybody.

This is probably major old news, and I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of it by a long shot. But it's my little pet theory, most just something that I, personally, would really like to see happen. I'm probably being far too optimistic, but hey, it passes the time, right? I don't actually necessarily believe that this is how it's going to happen. But I think it ties in nicely.
At the end, Harry becomes the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. I know he wants to become an Auror, now. But in OotP, Harry taught the D.A., and was apparently very good at it. During the course of the book, it mentioned how Harry enjoyed setting up lesson plans and how he apparently felt good when his, you know, student body succeeded in mastering a particularly difficult spell. He's obviously got a talent for teaching and likes to do it. Plus, if he defeats Voldemort, how much call will there be for Aurors? (I'm sure there will always be dark wizards, but certainly not the amount that there is now and was in the past...at least for the time being.) Also, it's possible, to me at least, that after defeating Voldemort, Harry may be sort of burnt out on an Auror's job. And with Voldemort gone, so curse on the DADA teaching position will probably be voided.
I really like the idea of the book having an epilogue, giving us a glimpse of life after LV. And I thikn that it would be a particularly rewarding end if Harry became the school's DADA teacher. (And probably head of Gryffindor house.) Meh, not the best worded theory ever. But I'm hot and tired and my brains are kind of toasted from reading a bunch of HP stuff today. Can't wait for Friday night/Saturday morning!

So, like everyone in the whole world, I'm rereading most of the books. I read them in order last summer, so I'm just reading what I feel like now, skipping around - so far, 5, 3, 6, then probably 2 and half of 6 again. Anyhow, rereading 3, I was struck by the big deal made out of Wormtail's life debt to Harry. I'm sure everyone, like me, is assuming that this will somehow be resolved by Wormtail dying in 7 to Harry's benefit, possibly while saving his life. ( But what about other life debts? )( And another, unrelated life debt question )

The Ice Cream Man Cometh: A study in circumstantial evidence [All page references are to the U.S. hardback editions.] Consider former headmaster Fortescue. His portrait (the “corpulent, red-nosed wizard”) was given a speaking part every time we visited Dumbledore’s office in Order of the Phoenix. [OotP, 473, 614, 821-822] He was highlighted again in Half-Blood Prince. [HBP, 499] Rowling is encouraging us to notice him. But why? Every other former headmaster or headmistress who’s gotten that much page time has also served some function in the story. Armando Dippet played a part in the diary memory in Chamber of Secrets, Phineas Nigellus was Sirius’ relative, and Dilys and Everard delivered Dumbledore’s messages. Other than having a brief conversation with Harry at the end of OotP, Headmaster Fortescue hasn’t done anything or been connected to anyone. Or so it would seem. But what if there’s actually a delicate, near-invisible spiderweb of clues that suggest Headmaster Fortescue is more important to the story than he first appears? We can best examine that web by starting with one question: is it possible that Headmaster Fortescue was a descendant of Godric Gryffindor? ( Read the rest at my journal... )

I had the strangest Potter-related dream last night and I had to share. First allow me to say that I am (by all accounts) a horrible driver in real life. In this dream, I was out hanging out with Hermione and I didn't drive because I'm not legally allowed to (because I'm a bad driver) so Hermione drove. Drunk. In this dream, I was a random student at Hogwarts (sometimes I was actually there, sometimes I was just kinda watching) and we were on vacation...down the street from where I live in the States. Anyways, I must have spent a night hanging out with Hermione because she was drunk out of her pretty little head. And she was driving the Weasley's big blue Ford Angelia. But on the left side of the road, like you do in the States. WEIRD. Anyways, she's driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic, she's driving like a drunk person. At some point she crashes into this huge chain linked fence (which actually exists in the real-life road down which we were driving in the dream) and we land on the other side of the street. We're on the right side of the road, she crashes into the fence (also on the right side of the road), and we land on the LEFT side of the road. Don't ask me how. That's just how it happened. We get back to where we're staying (the entrance to which was a giant tree trunk), I'm wondering why we didn't just fly or apparate, and we're led into this little room (probably hiding from McGonogal, who was probably there to supervise?) and I saw this staff of sorts. It was made from what looked like a thin fence post, it was a cobalt blue color, and had a blue orb on top. It was splintered into seven pieces and had to be put back together. McGonogal kept wondering where Harry was, because she had to get the weapon (this staff/orb thing) to Harry so he could fix it and defeat Voldemort. I don't know, either. No Ron, no Ginny, no twins, no one but McGonogal, Hermione, and a mention of Harry. I hope this is allowed because it amused me to no end, and I can't wait till the book/movie come out. Current Mood: amused

So I'm re-reading through the books before the summer events commence, and I re-stumbled across something that I know has been addressed previously, by the HP community in general... but i'm STILL not entirely clear on the number of students at hogwarts. I only ask because while I was re-reading PoA, Harry was at a Quidditch match against Slytherin and observed "200 hundred Slytherin supporters". I ran very generous numbers... and even with GENEROUS head counts of the students... 200 hundred is FAR too many. There are 5 Gryffindor boys in Harry's year... But let's be generous and say there's an average of 8 boys in each year. Multiply that by two, to include the girls -- 16, times 7 -- 112 in each house (again, being generous), times 4 houses. That's 448. 200!? that's near half the school! There's no way half the school was supporting Slytherin in the Quidditch match. I did some research and finally found an essay on this exact question on the HP Lexicon. Seems pretty conclusive... but i was wondering if JK has ever addressed this issue, and I just was unable to find it. Two more questions regarding the book covers... Not really spoilerish, ( but just in case )And since I'm here... I'm very excited! I'm keeping it under control, though. Trying, at least. Actually, while I'm here... I'm on Guam, which is on the other side of the International Date Line from the mainland US. I've been here for 2 book releases (well, while it's been WILDLY popular) -- and they NEVER make a big deal about how we'll be the FIRST PLACE in America to get to open the books. I don't understand WHY. Especially for the 7th book. There's never been any release party, none of this staying up all night celebrating with a midnight release. NOTHING. It's quite frustrating. I wish I were going to be in the states for this release -- But if any of you want to come here for the release, I'd be happy to show you around, be your tour guide, and to camp in front of the store. *hopeful smile* ;) either way... just wanted to share my frustration (and questions, don't forget)... and to remind you all on the mainland how lucky you are to be part of a large community. :) Current Location: bear's house
